We’ve been very impressed with the service and price we’ve gotten from Heaps Arnold and we intend to use them for years to come.
We have been installing timber windows and doors for 18 years in all parts of London. We had always used lead weights, assuming that steel weights would bring difficulties in terms of organisation which would outweigh the savings. One day, in a discussion about cutting costs, we decided to try our luck and make the switch to steel weights.We had our accountant search high and low for the most competitive price, and after a few days she came back with Heaps Arnold. I contacted them to get an initial quote and some more information about the products and was pleasantly surprised to get a response within a few minutes. Since then, Marc has been very consistent with how quickly he comes back to us. Almost always within 10-20 minutes or so at the most, and answers all your questions comprehensively. This alone can be enough reason to go with a supplier – after all, in construction we’ve all been in a situation that could have been resolved quickly and experienced the frustration of someone not coming back to you in a reasonable timeframe, with potential knock on effects to your jobs and the irritation of having to devote headspace to chasing someone who should be getting back to you quickly.We had a few requirements if we were going to start a business relationship. Firstly, we needed very specific labelling on the weights. This might sound like a small thing, but it’s really not; we were seeking to buy hundreds of steel weights per month, and with no proper way to identify each weight things were rapidly going to start getting messy. Thankfully Marc was able to organise this in exactly the way we’d asked, and displayed the same consistency with labelling that he does with responding to our emails. We explained it once, and that’s all we needed to do. We never had to check up on this and never had a weight labelled incorrectly. Knowing we have a reliable partner in this gives us peace of mind which gives us the time to focus on other areas of the business.Here’s some examples of what we asked him to do. It’s the customer’s name, and the ‘L’ number refers to the particular window, which tallies with the paperwork our men on site use. You can see the consistent and clear writing on every one of these weights. This saves us tons of time and makes things much less stressful for our men on site.
Once we have all the weights for our jobs loaded up in the van, we get down to the bread and butter of our business – fitting sash windows. The steel weights have a hole on the top which allows the sash cord to be pulled through and held in place by a knot. Having the hole at the top means you end up using significantly less sash cord than you otherwise would have.Since the weights are already cut to size, we can just insert them directly into the sash window box without having to weigh the sashes or cut any lead. This means our men on site can just crack straight on with the work – so they all appreciate the time saving that comes with properly sized steel weights.As you can see, the weights fit perfectly, meaning there’s no bouncing around in the frame and the window sounds – and operates – as well as our customers expect.
